The Rainmakers and The Elders will Headline October 6th

March 23, 2012 (Parkville, MO) – Partygoers will have much to celebrate when Parktoberfest returns to a beautifully restored park, after extensive cleanup and rebuilding due to last year’s flooding. The 2011 flood killed approximately 100 trees throughout the park and caused damage to structures including a stage and playground equipment. According to Tom Barnard, Parks Superintendent, seeding is ongoing with plans to tackle the playground area adding new mulch, a slide and a climbing wall. “Our Arbor Day will be held on April 12th, which will coincide with the grand opening of the Park. We have plans to plant as many trees as possible to replace the ones lost in last year’s flood,” said Barnard. There will be a ribbon cutting at 9:00 am, followed by the tree planting. The public is invited to attend, and representatives from the EPA and FEMA will also be on hand.

The 4th Annual Parktoberfest is set for October 6th, beginning with a Parkville Chamber 5K Run starting at 8am, followed by a “Family” run. Races will be finished by 10am. Music and entertainment begin at noon on the main stage; with last call at 8pm. Music includes The Elders are on a double headliner with The Rainmakers, and a full lineup of local talent including School of Rock’s Best, and Rockin Rob’s music show for the kids. There will be local fare from Parkville restaurants, the popular beer garden and a high quality wine tent. Admission is free (a $10 park donation to help with additional projects is suggested).

Funds generated from last year’s event continue to go toward restoration efforts. Local businesses including McDonald’s, Parkville Coffeehouse, and Stone Canyon, have placed donation boxes in their lobbies to help raise additional funds. “There is still a lot of work ahead so we really appreciate the efforts of these local businesses,” said Cory Miller, Chairman of Friends of Parkville Parks, the nonprofit behind Parktoberfest.

Sponsors already committed for the 4th Annual Parktoberfest include Miller’s Landscape & Lawn Care, North Kansas City Hospital, Parkville Old Town Community Improvement District (CID), Ultimate Athletic, and Missouri-American Water. Parktoberfest offers five levels of sponsorship and is currently seeking another title sponsor and a stage sponsor. The event is also endorsed by the City of Parkville, Platte County, the Parkville Chamber of Commerce, the Main Street Parkville Association, the Parkville Economic Development Council, and Parkville Presbyterian Church.

Parkville Symphonic Band NovemberFest Concert to Benefit Parkville Parks
The Parkville Symphonic Band will present a concert to benefit the Friends of Parkville Parks on Sunday afternoon, November 6, at 3:00 p.m. at the Park University Graham Tyler Memorial Chapel.  Music director Stephen Berg will conduct a tour of German and Austrian Romantic-Era favorites including von Suppé’s exuberant and challenging Poet and Peasant Overture, Brahms’ Hungarian Dances 5 and 6, and everyone’s favorite waltz, Strauss’s On the Beautiful Blue Danube.  Other selections will include Wagner’s jubilant march for the Arrival of the Guests from Tannhauser, and the Light Cavalry Overture, in which von Suppé perfectly portrays horses galloping into the field of battle.  Whether you like the splendor of waltzes, the wild abandon of gypsy dances, lively polkas, or a powerhouse technical tour-de-force, this concert will give you much to enjoy.

With this concert, the band salutes one of the regions most popular treasures, Parkville’s English Landing Park running along side our own Beautiful Blue Danube, the picturesque Missouri River.  The park has been devastated by this year’s prolonged flood, and although the City of Parkville will clean up and repair much of the damage, complete restoration may be beyond the City’s resources.  Friends of Parkville Parks (FOPP) seeks to fund and assist with improvements to Parkville’s parklands that go beyond those the City alone can accomplish.  Replacing the many trees killed by this year’s flood and repairing damaged structures within the park are among the possible improvements that FOPP will support.  We invite you to join with us in supporting FOPP and one of Parkville’s most used attractions.  Admission is free and open to the public, with free-will donations being accepted for FOPP.  For more information, please go to our web site at ParkvilleSymphonicBand.org, or call (816) 741-7388.

The 3rd annual Parktoberfest event was a huge success, made all the more so by the generous hearts of the citizens of Parkville!  The weather was perfect for an afternoon at the park and around 6,000 people came out to enjoy the festivities in our temporary location.  With this year’s success behind us, we’re already excited to start planning for the next event, and we’ll need your help!

In show of support for Flood Relief and Park Restoration

September 21, 2011 (Parkville, MO) -- Area businesses and community leaders have teamed up with Parktoberfest, an annual event held in Parkville, to help raise funds for post-flood park cleanup and restoration. Cory Miller, Chairman of Friends of Parkville Parks, the nonprofit organization responsible for planning the event, says that cleanup and restoration will cost thousands and thousands of dollars; with the help of area sponsors and supporters, they are halfway to reaching their goal of $35,000 gross. “I’m overwhelmed by the outpouring of support for our city and our parks. It’s been an incredible experience to work alongside such a caring community,” said Miller. “We need as many people as possible to come down to Parktoberfest and help us reach our final goal.”

The 3rd Annual Parktoberfest takes place on Saturday, October 1st, in English Landing Park’s Farmers Market area. Gates open at 11am, and the party kicks off at noon with Alice 102 and Emcee Mark Vasto, publisher of the Parkville Luminary. There is live music all day on the main stage featuring The Elders - An Arse Kickin’ Band, The Yardogs - a Rockin’ Five-Piece Band, Kasey Rausch - our own Parkville singer/songwriter, Kyle Cimino (who was just named Best Guitarist in Kansas City) and bassist/guitarist Trevor Brown,  Victor & Penny (Jeff Freling, guitarist for Chicago’s Blue Man Group, and actress Erin McGrane of local/national TV commercial and movie fame), ex-Laker Kareem Rush and his smooth R&B, along with School of Rock’s Best and Brightest.  

Expect fun for the entire family. Parktoberfest welcomes the little ones and offers kid games, creative art, and an interactive music show by Rockin Rob. 

A Parktoberfest Fall Feast will be prepared by HyVee, with lighter fare provided by the Parkville Coffeehouse and Dave’s Dawgs. Or, stop by Piropos booth for the empanadas. Parkville restaurants will also be open for business and within walking distance of the event. The Beer Garden will serve Bob’s 47, Boulevard Wheat, Boulevard Pilsner, Sam Adams Octoberfest and Miller Lite.  A fine selection of wines will also be served. 

An assortment of vendors will be represented on the field. Friends of Parkville Parks will have a booth to encourage annual $25 membership which includes a membership card, e-blasts, and a T-shirt, available on event day at check-in. Officials of Platte County Parks and Recreation and the City of Parkville will be on hand to collect public opinion and ideas for the new forty four acre park expansion in Parkville.
